Obras Recientes

Now on view at the Cortijo Los Aguilares outside Ronda, an exhibition of Seaton’s most recent paintings form part of an interdisciplinary programme of art, music and dance.

In the winery’s Sala de Catas, Seaton’s paintings - including La Dance (Homage to Matisse) and Fuente - set the scene for a uniquely immersive evening that included performances by dancer and choreographer Pablo Gutierrez Rios in concert with baritone Pablo Rossi Rodino, who sang poems by Federico Garcia Lorca and canciones by Manuel de Falla, both accompanied by pianist Tatiana Studyonova.

Exhibition opening in the Sala de Catas, Cortijo Los Aguilares, 20 August 2025

Seaton’s landscape paintings are more than impressions of his rural neighbourhood outside Ronda; they capture the immersive effect of being in the campo, its temperature, texture and light. His apparently abstract forms often appear to float discretely just above the surface, never quite resolving into fixed compositions. Instead, vibrant colour keys and opposing angles create images that seem to shift subtly with the viewer’s eye, almost like a kinetic sculpture.

His consistently graphic style, powered by pure colour and clear essential forms, evolved logically and organically from his early career as a sculptor. Seaton’s technique – painting on vellum in pure dry pigments and high-quality PVC binders - often incorporates collage, because as he explains, “It’s quite sculptural… physical, improvisational … sometimes destructive. But it’s also a great way to self-correct.”

I see vectors and geometry behind everything; it’s just part of how I make sense of the world. When I look at any landscape - especially the active, mercurial views around my home - I translate it into discrete colours and forms, which unite and disband depending on the light.

As in all his series, he develops each work around a key source painting. As certain forms assert themselves, his process becomes an active debate between colour and form, shape and pigment. Finally, the evident musicality of his work is no accident. An accomplished musician, he has always been keenly aware of the aural effect of his environment, describing its ever-changing moods and seasons as “pyrotechnic”.
